The Full of Life project, a series of share houses and individual homes for 36 students, is designed to create a community for the students within the site by encouraging interaction, diversity, and physical, mental and environmental health. The proposal considers the site issues from first principles bringing the context into the development and creating a model of affordable housing for Newcastle students.
The project comprises of small and large sharehouses, formed around a central green area and multipurpose building which could house weekly social events, birthdays, meetings etc. The internal organisation of the sharehouses are carefully planned with ideas taken from Feng Shui principles to harmonize individuals with their surrounding environment. Above the houses are rooftop gardens for students to grow their own crops and plants, which have proven destressing effects and provides great excellent insulation, thermal mass increased biodiversity, and reduced noise pollution.
